Last month, I had dropped off my kids at school and was driving home when, all of a sudden, I found my van in a ditch on the side of the road. Not a very big one, but I couldn’t get out on my own. Thankfully, all I had to do was make a couple of phone calls and help was on the way. I was grateful to have access to the services I needed so that my mishap only ended up being a minor inconvenience in an otherwise ordinary day. It made me think of people who find themselves in far worse circumstances without such an obvious way to get out.

For May’s assignment, write about a time that you needed to be rescued.

What was the situation?
Did you know what to do?
How did it feel to be out of control of the situation, or at the mercy of another person’s choice whether or not to help?
Did your experience make you more sensitive to the plight of others?
