“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

There is a popular saying in the United States that says, “Every cloud has a silver lining.” In nature, we actually see these linings when the sun shines behind a cloud and beams down in beautiful rays. Brighter linings are often seen around thicker clouds containing larger cloud droplets. This phenomenon in God’s creation is a metaphor we can use in our daily lives:

Can we see beyond the thick and ominous clouds, to the beauty and light beyond?

We can likely all agree that the pandemic has been an ominous cloud hanging over us for many months. But with all the heartache and sorrow it has caused, surprising blessings and hope have also been born out of difficult circumstances — the silver linings. Romans 8 assures us that even in the hard places of life — like in the midst of COVID-19 — no matter what situation we currently face, God will eventually show us a silver lining beyond the clouds. Write about:

  • How has God been working in your life, providing silver linings during the pandemic?
  • Share biblical truths or personal prayer answered to illustrate how God has been faithful and present with you during this year of change?
